Today, we will be kicking off with David, who is one of the members of our design team.

1. How did you get here?

“I started in June 2020, just as we were coming out of lockdown. Previously, I was employed as a Design (Studio) Manager at a marketing agency in Rotherham and have previously worked in design and advertising studios as well as in-house brand management roles across most of Yorkshire and Derbyshire. I contacted Ryan through LinkedIn after seeing the role online and as I've worked with Hydra before I wanted to put myself forward. On the back of this I was invited for a conversation, then offered a position which I happily accepted.”

2. What is your role at Hydra?

“My role is split between Graphic Design and UX Design. On the Graphic Design side of things, I create and manage brand assets, designing website and digital materials and ensuring brand consistency for our clients. With regards to UX Design, I look into the user journey and accompanying motivations and psychology of a user through an experience, to ensure their unique goals are met. This involves implementing common visual appearance themes to divert or attract attention alongside in-depth analytical analysis of the current users and target market.”

3. Favourite thing/s about working at Hydra?

“I really enjoy the challenge and variety of projects we undertake at Hydra, as I can both utilise my experience and learn new techniques and methods. The team are really helpful and accepting, so there's never two days the same!”

4. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

“In my spare time I enjoy listening to and playing music, as well as playing football and distance running. I also love the fact that we have the Peak District on our doorstep, so enjoy taking my two daughters for country walks (and sneaky chocolate cakes).”

5. What is your proudest achievement?

“I designed the interior for the SUFC academy, so work that I've created is seen by my lifelong supported football team players and staff. It's pretty cool seeing a player interview and my design in the background! Any time I see any of my work in use I'm happy really!”

6. Favourite snack?

“Halloumi. With anything, but ideally with more Halloumi.”
