What has changed?

If a post feels overly AI-generated or inauthentic, users can now report it by clicking on the three dots and selecting the ‘seems like AI slop’ option. These reports will help LinkedIn improve its systems for identifying and reducing the reach of low-quality content, whilst also hiding the generic content from a user’s feed.

This isn’t the only change LinkedIn has introduced. The platform is taking other steps to prioritise original and valuable content:

  • Automated spam blocking – LinkedIn is actively working to identify and block automated and mass-produced posts and comments.
  • Reducing the reach of low-quality content – LinkedIn is improving the way it identifies AI-generated and generally low-quality content, helping to reduce how often these posts appear in users’ feeds and suggested content.
  • Removing the ‘enhance your post’ feature – LinkedIn has replaced its generative AI rewriting feature with a basic proofreading tool that corrects grammar without rewriting the post or changing the user’s personal voice.

What does this update mean for your business?

LinkedIn’s crackdown on AI-generated and generic content means that low effort posts are likely to see reduced algorithmic reach, meaning that less of the intended audience will see them. For businesses looking to maintain or grow their reach, the focus needs to shift from producing high volumes of low-quality content, to publishing fewer and higher quality posts that reflect authentic human experiences and perspectives.

The businesses most likely to succeed following this update are those that prioritise quality over quantity, sharing content shaped by people with genuine expertise and who have something valuable to say, rather than just posting more often when you have nothing interesting to say.

Why does authenticity matter?

Creating consistent and authentic content is more valuable than relying on AI-generated responses. Whilst AI can be a useful tool for supporting the content creation process, it shouldn’t replace the expertise and personality behind your business.

Audiences are becoming more familiar with the patterns associated with AI-generated content, like generic advice and posts that lack a clear point of view. These types of content can quickly begin to feel impersonal. However, content that shares genuine experiences and useful insights gives the audience a reason to engage with the content; for example through sharing, liking, or commenting.

Authenticity also helps businesses build trust. Sharing real knowledge and perspectives allows you to demonstrate your expertise, whilst also starting conversation and building stronger relationships with your audience.
