The Challenge

The primary challenge was building a site that could handle real-time, dynamic content while still offering ease-of-use for a small, hands-on team. Aston Park’s team needed to manage weekly fishing availability, match listings, winner highlights, and Facebook updates, all without requiring ongoing technical input.

The existing site lacked the flexibility and visual impact to support this. There was no clear place for match results, anglers had to rely on social media or phone calls for lake availability, and the depth of the fishery’s offering, from the café to the Angling Centre, wasn’t being communicated effectively online.

Equally important was the need to engage both new and returning visitors with detailed lake information, including species breakdowns and catch expectations. And with proud sponsorships from leading angling brands like Guru and Access Angling, the new site also had to reflect a professional polish and promote those partner relationships more prominently.

This wasn’t just about a website, it was about creating a central digital touchpoint that brought together community, credibility, and convenience in one cohesive platform.

 

What We Did

Hydra Creative approached the project with a clear mission: to deliver a site that was not only visually impressive but also practical, fast-loading, and easy for the Aston Park team to manage week-to-week.

We started by building a bespoke weekly fishing availability module, allowing staff to log in and quickly update match and pleasure bookings, including which lakes were open, match prices, and any changes to the schedule. This immediately streamlined communication and reduced reliance on social media or phone calls for core visitor information.

Next, we created dedicated pages for each lake, showcasing detailed information on the fish that populate them. including carp, tench, barbel, bream and more , alongside tips and expectations for anglers. Supporting this was a built-in species guide, providing deeper insight for new visitors and helping to attract enthusiasts searching online for specific fish or techniques.

To keep the website fresh and community-focused, we embedded a live Facebook feed directly into the homepage, pulling through updates, photos, and match results as soon as they’re posted. We complemented this with a match winners gallery, designed to be easily updated each week with names, images, and scores, adding a personal and celebratory touch that reflects the fishery’s friendly, competitive atmosphere.

We also showcased Aston Park’s additional offerings, including the on-site café, which prepares fresh food daily, and the Angling Centre, stocked with gear, bait, and expert advice. Each section was supported by vibrant imagery and concise content, helping visitors plan their day or extend their stay.

A live weather feed was added to the homepage, allowing anglers to check local conditions before travelling. Meanwhile, partner visibility was built into the design from the start, with Guru and Access Angling logos and links featured in the footer of the site, supporting long-term brand relationships.

Finally, the website’s design was given a bold, nature-inspired aesthetic, with striking lake photography and intuitive navigation, all fully responsive across mobile, tablet, and desktop to reflect the diverse ways visitors plan their trips.

The Result

The new Aston Park Fisheries website has transformed how the venue communicates with its community and showcases its offering. Visitors now enjoy a seamless experience, from checking lake availability to browsing match results or reviewing lake-specific catch insights.

The site has significantly reduced incoming enquiries about lake openings, thanks to the clear weekly schedule, and has boosted engagement with match results through the Facebook integration and visual match winner highlights.

Importantly, the new platform reflects the true scale and quality of the fishery, offering a welcoming and informative space that appeals to pleasure anglers, competitive fishers, and families alike. The café and tackle shop are now part of the narrative, not an afterthought, and the weather feed and sponsor visibility tie it all together into a unified, strategic platform.
