Hydra Creative Colour Predictions

Ahead of the announcement of the official Pantone Colour of the Year 2021, we have put together a list of six colours we predict could be contenders for Colour of the Year for 2021, based on our experiences of 2020 so far.

1. PANTONE 108

We chose this colour because it is a warm, sunny yellow which reminds us of the time we have all spent in the garden whilst working from home. It also reminded us of how lucky we were with the great weather we had during the lockdown, and how amidst the chaos, it brought so much joy to us all (some of us even got a tan!).

1. PANTONE 108

2. PANTONE 297

PANTONE 297 is a light blue that is reminiscent of the blue surgical masks that we have been wearing to keep us and others safe during this pandemic. It also brought to mind fresh air and cleanliness, and how important frequent cleaning is.

2. PANTONE 297

3. PANTONE 7725

This is a leafy green that reminded us of how much more time we have all spent on walks and in our gardens as part of our daily exercise. It also reminded us of the importance of staying healthy and how we have found inventive ways of exercising outdoors whilst gyms and leisure centres were closed.

3. PANTONE 7725

4. PANTONE 300

PANTONE 300 is NHS blue. We are all incredibly grateful and lucky to have the NHS during this pandemic, as they have saved so many lives and done so much for everyone in this country. This blue has been a very important colour this year and one we can all recognise. This colour reminded us of the Clap For Our Carers that took place every Thursday at 8pm for 10 weeks during lockdown to show our gratitude for the NHS. The nation took to their front doorsteps and celebrated the NHS by clapping - with some even banging pots and pans. For many people, Clap For Our Carers was a chance to connect with our neighbours at a distance, and it really brought us together as a nation.

4. PANTONE 300

5. PANTONE 1795

PANTONE 1795 is a bright red that can signal danger, symbolising the fear we feel towards the virus. It is also the colour of the Netflix logo; because we were at home for so many months, lots of us took to binge-watching our favourite series and watching lots of movies we normally wouldn’t have the time to.

5. PANTONE 1795

6. PANTONE Black

We chose this colour because it represents a very important new era that has been unfolding during the lockdown. The Black Lives Matter movement fights for racial equality and justice, and the dismantling of unfair white privilege, and it is something many of us feel very strongly about. The hashtags #blacklivesmatter and #blackouttuesday became very prominent on social media millions of people participated in Blackout Tuesday where they took to social media posting plain black squares with the hashtag #blackouttuesday to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Many took a break from all social media for the day after posting the plain black square and spent the time educating themselves further on the issues brought to prominence by this global movement.

6. PANTONE Black
